Bio

Matthew Cameron, founder of Hospro and That Matt Cameron, helps well-intentioned leaders generate and maintain momentum with their well-being and retention strategies.

What makes Matt unique is that his journey here didn’t begin with a well-designed career path in HR or L&D, it began sat on the edge of his bed on the second day of 2019.

That was the day that Matt decided to end his life.

What makes him unique is that he once was the employee that you put systems in place to protect, support and develop – but yet he still fell through the cracks.

He went from being an engaged and motivated employee to being sat on the edge of his bed with one shoe already tied, ready to walk out the front door and end it all, and a big factor in leading him to that moment was his work environment.

Since that day, he’s climbed back from that darkness to better understand how he ended up there in the first place, to learn about what influences (un)happiness at work and how to use it all to help businesses and their people to thrive.

His focus now is on the positive or negative impact that a work environment can have on employee well-being, motivation and productivity while shifting the conversation away from big events (as the cause) & external benefits (as the solution).

My background is 17 years within the hospitality industry, an industry that is restricted in what it can offer its people when it comes to benefits, bonuses & work-life balance. It led me to address the problem: What do you give your employees and how do you improve their well-being when there is ‘nothing’ there to give? Which is relevant for every industry as we now enter a period of global financial instability.
